The Polo gay app and Golo are two Indian apps for gay men that both keep photos private. Where they differ is what happens to everything you share.
Polo keeps photos in albums; Golo lets each one be seen once
Golo is a chat and dating app for gay and bisexual men in India with no profile photos at all, and others see only a rough distance to you, never where you are.
Polo is also an Indian gay app, from a Bengaluru company, and it is much bigger today, with 10M+ downloads on Google Play. It keeps photos in private albums that you share only with chats you trust, it checks profiles with a selfie, and it runs in English and Hindi.
So both apps let you choose who sees a photo. The difference is what happens after: Golo gives each chat photo a single look and clears your messages after 30 days, and Polo does not document anything like that.
If you want an album you can keep and share with more than one person, or an app with many men on it already, choose Polo. For what you send to clear itself away, Golo is the one built for that.
Where Golo goes further with what you share
Each of these works from the moment you sign up, except App Lock, which you turn on in Settings.
No profile photo, and no album either
Your profile shows the first letter of your name, and there is no album to fill. There is no collection of your photos building up over time.
Photos in chat get one look
A photo you send opens one time. The moment it is opened, nobody can open it again, and our servers delete it.
Messages go after 30 days
Every message is deleted once it is 30 days old, for both of you, without anyone having to remember.

App Lock with a PIN or fingerprint
Turn it on in Settings, and Golo asks for your 4-digit PIN or fingerprint when you come back to it: straight away, or after 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes, as you choose.
Adults only, and moderated
Your date of birth is set once and cannot be changed. Display names and bios are checked automatically, and “User may be a minor” is its own report reason. Our Community Guidelines say what is not allowed.

What Polo is
Polo is an Indian gay dating app, run by Primetrace Technologies in Bengaluru.

It also offers filters for location, age, distance, who is online and interests, and voice and video calls. It is free to install, with a paid Premium plan, and it works in English and Hindi.
What Polo does well
- Private albums. If you want to share a set of photos with more than one person over time, Polo does that and Golo does not.
- Many people already: 10M+ downloads on Google Play.
- Selfie-verified profiles, a screening process for new profiles, and lifetime bans for repeat offenders.
- Incognito mode, which keeps you hidden until you choose to reveal more.

There is no single winner here. There is a version of you that each app is right for.

Common questions
Is Golo the same app as Polo?
No. They are separate apps from separate companies, and Golo is not connected to Polo in any way.
Can I tell when my photo was opened?
Yes. Once he opens a photo you sent, your chat shows the time he viewed it. After that nobody can open it again.
How does Golo deal with fake profiles?
Sign-up needs an Indian mobile number and a one-time code. Display names and bios are checked automatically, and you can report a fake or spam profile from the profile itself or your chat. Golo does not have selfie verification.
Does Golo work outside the big cities?
Golo works anywhere in India. Browse opens on All states, and you can narrow it to one state in Filters. There is no distance limit to set.
What does my Golo profile show?
A display name, your age, your position, whether you have a place to meet, a short bio if you add one, a rough distance, whether you are online now and how many likes you have. Your age comes from the date of birth you give at sign-up, and it cannot be changed.
