Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Golo (“Golo”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) — a dating and chat application for adults — collects, uses, processes, stores, shares, and protects your personal data when you access or use the Golo mobile app and related services (together, the “Platform”). We have built Golo to be privacy-protective by default: we collect only the minimum information needed to run the service, and we do not collect photos, run advertising, or sell your data.

Golo is operated from India, and this Policy is framed primarily under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it. Where applicable to you, it also reflects rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). By creating an account and continuing to use the Platform, you consent to the processing of your personal data as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated as you use the Platform, and a limited amount of technical information collected automatically.

  • Phone number: your mobile number is your login identity. You sign in with a one-time password (OTP) sent over SMS; we do not use email or social-login accounts and we do not store passwords.
  • Country & language: the country code of your number and your chosen in-app language, used to localize the service.
  • Date of birth: collected once at sign-up to verify you are 18+. We store it to enforce the age requirement; your displayed age is derived from it.
  • Profile: display name, an optional bio, your position preference, and whether you have a place to meet. We do not collect or host profile photos or other media.
  • Approximate location: your device location, used only to compute an approximate distance to other users. Your precise coordinates are never shown to anyone.
  • Messages: the content of text chats you send, stored so we can deliver them and so your conversation history is available on your device.
  • Calls: voice and video calls connect directly between participants. We do not record, store, or listen to call audio or video. We keep only call events (for example, that a call happened, its time, and duration) so they appear in your chat history.
  • Activity & safety data: likes you send, blocks you create, and reports you file (including the reason and any details you add) — used to power matching and to keep the community safe.
  • Presence: your online/last-active status, used to show whether you are currently available.
  • Technical & log data: limited information such as IP address, device and operating-system type, app version, and access timestamps, used for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.

You may choose not to provide optional information (such as your bio), but some features may not work without the required details.

How information is collected during use

Information is collected at different stages of your interaction with the Platform. Certain technical information is collected automatically when the app is launched. When you sign in, your phone number is collected for authentication through OTP verification. During registration you provide profile details such as display name, date of birth, bio, position preference, and location permission. While using the Platform, activity such as messages, likes, blocks, and reports is recorded so the service functions correctly and stays safe.

How we use your information

  • To create, operate, and secure your account and profile.
  • To verify that you are 18 or older.
  • To show nearby users by approximate distance and power filters.
  • To deliver real-time messages and connect voice/video calls.
  • To show aggregate like counts and indicate who is online.
  • To moderate content, review reports, and act against abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.
  • To provide support and to comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Legal basis & consent

Where the DPDP Act applies, we process your personal data based on the consent you give when you create an account and use specific features (for example, granting location permission), and for certain legitimate uses permitted by law such as security and abuse prevention. Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases include performance of our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating a safe service, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time (see Your rights & choices); withdrawal stops processing for the related purpose, and some features may stop working.

Location

Your exact location is never shared with other users. Coordinates are sent to our servers only to calculate an approximate distance, and that approximate distance is the only location information other users can see. You can disable location access in your device settings at any time.

Messages & calls

Text messages travel over an encrypted connection and are stored so we can deliver them and keep your history. To help keep the community safe, messages may be reviewed in connection with a report or a legal requirement. Where supported, the app limits screenshots in sensitive areas to deter casual sharing. Voice and video calls connect directly between participants and are never recorded or stored by us; we only retain a record that a call took place so it appears in your chat history.

Who-liked-you is private

Likes are one-way. The list of people who liked you is never exposed to you or anyone else — only an aggregate count is shown on a profile.

How your information is shared

We do not sell personal data. We share information only as needed to operate the Platform, comply with the law, prevent fraud, or protect safety:

  • With other users: only what your profile displays — display name, optional bio, position, “has a place” status, approximate distance, online status, and aggregate like count.
  • With service providers (processors): trusted vendors that process limited data only on our behalf and under contract, as described below.
  • For legal & safety reasons: with law-enforcement or authorities where required by law or where reasonably necessary to enforce our Terms, prevent harm, or protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
  • Business transfers: if Golo is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, data may transfer to the successor entity, subject to this Policy and applicable law.

Third-party service providers

We work with a small number of trusted service providers that help us operate and secure the Platform — for example, SMS delivery for one-time password (OTP) verification, cloud hosting and database infrastructure, app distribution, and connectivity for voice and video calls. These providers process only the limited personal data needed to perform their service, act on our behalf and under contract, and are required to keep your information confidential and secure. They may not use your information for their own independent purposes except as required by law.

We do not sell your personal data, share it with advertising networks, or use third-party advertising or tracking on the Platform.

Where your data is stored & international transfers

Your data is stored on secure databases and cloud infrastructure we use to operate the Platform, which may be located in India or in other jurisdictions where our providers operate. Where personal data is transferred across borders, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with applicable law.

Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active. We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the service, keep it secure, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. When you delete your account, your profile stops being visible and your data is removed as described in our Delete Account page; limited records may be retained for a short period only where the law requires it (for example, for safety, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes).

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. These include access controls and least-privilege restrictions, encryption of data in transit, secure handling of authentication credentials on your device, and authorization checks that ensure you can only access content you are permitted to see. Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel and providers bound by confidentiality obligations. No system is perfectly secure, and transmission over the internet is never entirely risk-free, but we work to detect, prevent, and respond to unauthorized access.

Your rights & choices

Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Access & correct: view and update your display name, bio, position, and other profile details directly in the app, or request a copy of your data.
  • Delete: delete your account and associated data in-app at any time (Settings → Delete Account). This is permanent and irreversible. See Delete Account.
  • Withdraw consent: revoke location or other device permissions in your settings, or contact us. Some features may stop working.
  • Nominate: where the DPDP Act applies, nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity, by contacting us.
  • Regional rights: depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA), you may have additional rights such as portability or objection; contact us to exercise them.

To make a request, email privacy@goloapp.co. We will respond within a reasonable time as required by applicable law.

Children

Golo is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has provided data or created an account, we will remove the account and delete the data. See our Child Safety Standards.

Grievance redressal

If you have a grievance about how we handle your personal data, you may contact us at support@goloapp.co. We will acknowledge and endeavor to resolve grievances within the timelines prescribed under applicable Indian law. If you are not satisfied with our resolution, you may approach the relevant authority in the manner prescribed by law.

Changes

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to our service or legal requirements. We will revise the “last updated” date above, and material changes will be highlighted in-app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
