Golo vs Blued
Blued is a large social platform with dating inside it. Golo is a safety-first dating app for gay men, with nothing else inside it.
The short answer
Golo is a safety-first dating and chat app for gay men. No profile photos, approximate distance only, photos in a chat that open once, and messages that delete themselves after 30 days — all on by default.
It also does one thing. See guys near you, read their profile, chat, call. There is no feed to scroll, no live room, and nothing to buy.
Blued is a different kind of product, and a genuinely successful one. It started in Beijing in 2012 and grew into one of the biggest LGBTQ+ platforms in Asia, with live streams, a posts feed and group chats alongside dating. Outside China you will usually find it under the name HeeSay.
So this is not really a contest. If you want a community to watch and take part in, Blued offers far more of it. If you want a quiet app built around keeping you safe, that is Golo.
Golo is safety-first by design
These are not settings to go looking for. They are how Golo works for everyone, from the first screen.
No profile photo at all
Golo has no profile picture field, so there is no image of you on our servers and nothing to be captured from a grid and reposted.
Nothing public, ever
There is no feed, no post, no live room and no follower list. Nothing you do on Golo is broadcast to an audience.
Only a phone number
A mobile number and an OTP get you in. No email, and no Google, Apple or Facebook account linked to your profile.
Approximate distance only
Others see roughly how far away you are. Your exact location never leaves our servers.
Photos in chat open once
A photo can be viewed a single time, and we delete it from our servers the moment it is opened.
Messages delete themselves after 30 days
For everyone, automatically, whether or not you thought to ask for it.
App Lock, and a strict 18+ gate
A PIN or your fingerprint in front of the app; date of birth required at sign-up and locked afterwards; names and bios screened; blocking and reporting two taps away.
Built and run in India
Golo is made here, works in nine Indian languages, and lets you delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, instantly.
Nobody can screenshot you
Golo blocks screen capture and screen recording across the whole app, so a screenshot of your profile or your chat comes out blank.
What else Golo does differently
Beyond safety, a few more choices that shape how Golo feels to use.
Nothing public to appear in
No timeline, no live room, no follower list. Nothing you do on Golo is shown to an audience — you open it, you look, you talk, you close it.
Free, with nothing to buy
No coins, no gifts, no subscription, no ads. Every feature is open to everyone, and nothing in the app is competing for your attention.
Run from India, for India
Golo is built and run here, in English plus eight Indian languages, with distances in kilometres and a support address you can write to in plain English.

What Blued is
Blued was founded in Beijing in 2012 and is run by BlueCity, now part of Newborn Town. In January 2024 the international version was rebranded as HeeSay, so outside China that is the name in the store.
Alongside dating it runs live broadcasting, a timeline of posts, and group conversations. Money comes from in-app purchases — coins and virtual gifts sent to streamers — rather than a flat subscription.
On the privacy side it offers verified profiles, private albums, disappearing messages and anti-screenshot protection.
What Blued does well
- Much bigger, across many countries — useful if you travel or want to meet people outside India.
- Live streaming and a posts feed, so there is something happening even when nobody is replying.
- Available on both Android and iPhone.
- More than a decade of product work, with privacy tools of its own like private albums and disappearing messages.
Which one should you install?
There is no single winner here. There is a version of you that each app is right for.
Choose Golo if…
- You want to meet men near you anywhere in India — the metros or a smaller town.
- You want a privacy-first app, not a general one with privacy bolted on afterwards.
- You want an app nobody can screenshot. Golo blocks screen capture and recording throughout, so a grab of your chat comes out blank.
- You want to be part of a community from the start, while it is still growing.
- You want a dating app, not a social network with dating attached.
- You want an app built and run in India, in your own language.
Blued may suit you better if…
- You like live streaming and want a community to watch and follow.
- You want the largest reach across Asia and beyond.
- You are on an iPhone.
- You want photo profiles with verification behind them.
Common questions
Is Blued the same app as HeeSay?
Broadly, yes. The company rebranded its international version as HeeSay in January 2024, while the Blued name continues in China. So the app you find in an Indian store may be listed under either name.
Is Golo connected to Blued in any way?
No. Golo is an independent Indian app with no link to Blued, HeeSay, BlueCity or Newborn Town.
Does Golo have live streaming?
No, and it is not planned. Golo is for finding someone nearby and talking to them one to one. Voice and video calls are between two people, free, and not broadcast to anyone.
Can I send photos on Golo?
Inside a chat, yes. That photo can be opened one time. The moment it is viewed we delete it from our servers, so it can never be opened again. A photo nobody opens goes with the rest of the chat after 30 days.
Where is my Golo data stored?
Golo is built and run from India. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time, and it is removed straight away.
Does Golo cost anything?
No. There is no subscription, no coins, no gifts and no ads. Every feature is free for everyone.

Golo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Blued. All product names and trademarks belong to their owners. The Blued column was compiled in September 2026 from that app’s own store listing, website and help pages; “Not publicly documented” means we could not find the answer in those sources, not that the feature is missing.
